Rep. Ownbey on Leadership Team in 2015

OKLAHOMA CITY – State Rep. Pat Ownbey is serving on Speaker Jeff Hickman’s leadership team for the second year in a row.

“We are trying to lead our House colleagues in the direction of more funding for schools, criminal justice reform and improvements to the child welfare system,” said Ownbey, R-Ardmore. “I plan to help Speaker Hickman to advance these causes while supporting fiscally conservative policies that aid the economic development of our communities.”

Ownbey, who chairs the House Human Services Committee, is the sponsor of legislation this year to ensure foster care parents can provide input into child welfare hearings and a second measure to improve the collaboration between the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and law enforcement. He was part of the special legislative team that worked on and enacted child welfare reforms under Speaker Kris Steele.

This year, Ownbey is also authoring legislation to increase the pay of experienced teachers.

“It’s an honor to serve in leadership with Speaker Hickman and I look forward to a productive session,” Ownbey said.
